4th of July Celebrations
By Mel | 05 Jul 2008 | 3 Comments |
I experienced my first 4th of July today. I woke up really early (too early!) only to fall back asleep and wake up around 11am so I got up and organised some stuff for my trip to Wilmington. We had plans to go to a BBQ at Ben's house so when it was time, we got organised, I even went and changed clothes after hearing Mrs Coleman tell Bobby that he needed to wear something Red, White or Blue cos it was 4th of July. So I rushed back upstairs and found a red shirt. That was all I had but it worked out since I have a red tank top, white shirt and blue eyes! LOL! Holli said I had matched all the colours! So anyways we went to a BBQ at Ben's house which was really fun. We ate, talked and played some video games. I was terrible at the game, it was called Crash Team Racer which is very similar to Crash Bandicoot but I played a few times and came last each time except one game I did finish 2nd which was really cool. I got so lost on the game, it's really hard to go in a straight line while shooting things at the opposition, jumping over leaps and sliding across ice... I mean, come on!! It was fun though!!
Afterwards we headed over to Rose Bowl which is in Pasadena, its a really big place and well known for it's Rose Bowl Parade at the beginning of the year. We drove around and got parking on the golf course which was really cool and then we walked around the golf course and found a really good spot on the grass to watch fireworks. There were alot of cars and people around but it was really cool. We laid down on blankets and watched the fireworks. Some were going off in different directions, but the main ones were right in front of us and when we laid down it was almost like they were above us. They were beautiful. It was a really fun night.
That pretty much wraps up the day. It's currently 2am, I'm leaving for Wilmington at 5am so I've just finished packing and finishing up the final details for the trip. So far it's looking to be a really good week, looking forward to updating ya'll. For now though, check out some pictures I took from today. They were alot of fun!!

Wilmington, North Carolina
By Mel | 03 Jul 2008 | 2 Comments |
A lot has changed over the past few days. Brooke has gone to stay with different people while I've decided to head down to Wilmington, North Carolina for the next week. It was a last minute decision but since I made the decision, everything is falling into place. I booked my flight with U.S. Airways which leaves LAX on Saturday morning. It's a 5hr plane ride to Charlotte, North Carolina where I'll then have an hour stop-over and then another flight to Wilmington, North Carolina which takes just under an hour. Also, I have many friends down there at the moment which will be really exciting plus some other One Tree Hill fans have told me so hotspots to check out so I've made a list and I'll definately be checking them out. As many know, it's my favorite show to get the chance to see some of the hotspots up close will be really amazing. I'm hoping to see some filming during the weekas they are apparently filming around town. I'm going to do a studio tour on Sunday which takes you around some of the places that One Tree Hill films.
Anyway, just updating ya'll. Tomorrow is 4th of July which is a holiday in America. I'll be spending it with the Colemans, I think we are going to a BBQ followed by fireworks down near the Rose Bowl. Should be a fun day! Also since it's already 4th of July in Australia, Happy Birthday to Nan
Disneyland
By Mel | 01 Jul 2008 | 3 Comments |
Yesterday we went to Disneyland with Kaylee and her mom. It was a long but really fun day. They picked us up at 8am cos we didn't want to get stuck in traffic or the ticket lines which was a good choice because instead of it taking 1-2 hours to get there we got there in 30 minutes without traffic. It was great! We all stumbled through the gates of Disneyland as none of us are morning people so we decided to head straight over to Space Mountain which happens to be one of Kaylee's favorite rides. I wasn't too sure about the ride cos I'm not the fast ride type of person but I loved it. It's a really fast rollercoaster, only it's pitch black and you can't see anything except stars and it's like your in space. It was awesome. We went on it 3 times. The first 2 times, Brooke and I rode up front and then the 3rd time I rode with Bailey who loved it too. You should have seen our photos the ride took, they were funny. We were definately awaek after that ride. Since we were close to the new Nemo ride, we didn't realise the wait for an hour long bu we survived the heat and long line. The ride was slow but cool, you go in this huge submarine and underwater. It was cool. After this we walked around and found some more of Kaylees favorite rides. We went on Indiana Jones which was a cool jeep ride, very rough and bumpy. Brooke was driving so we will blame her. LOL. We also went on The Pirates of the Carribbean which was nice and cool, we even got wet. We ended up going on that ride twice. Another fun ride was Thunder Mountain which was another roller coaster, only it was a train and went through mountains and mines. It was really cool. We rode that twice too! Afterwards we headed over to California Adventure to check out some more rides. I really loved Soarin Over California! I can now say I've been to many locations around California, from the beaches to the snow falls to the mountains. It was fantastic especially flying into Disneyland at Night! The trees even smelled fresh and the lemon trees smelt like lemons as we flew through the orchard yards (no joke!!!). We also went on Splash Mountain and we all got wet but I think Kaylee got the most wet which was funny cos she put a raincoat on. We rode with some friendly people who had never been on the ride before and didn't know what was going to happen, it was funny. I didn't get as wet as I thought I would but I soon dried cos it was really hot. Later we meet up with some friends and rode more rides.
We had dinner reservations at Blue Buyon which is beautiful. It's in the middle of the Pirates of the Carribbean ride. It was a little too dark though, we couldn't read the menus. The menus were a funny thing cos none of knew what exactly everything mean't and we wanted stuff that wasn't on the menu. Mrs Dodson asked if they had fries, you should have seen the face of our waiter so I definately wasn't going to ask if they had ketchup, might have got kicked out. LOL! Half way through dinner, I got the giggles really bad, I don't even know what started it but I just kept laughing. I'd stop but then they would come back again. It was funny. We all got Pirates hats and wore them, they were funky, I even brought mine home. I love it!! I'm a Pirate now. LOL!
We didn't leave Disneyland til like 11pm and didn't get home until after midnight, we were so tired we both went to sleep really quick and slept til late today. We did hardly anything today cos we were so exhausted, it's been a really long week and I think it finally caught up to us. Anyway, I thought some peeps would like to see some photos, I didn't take all that many cos we were having too much fun but I took enough.

Also it was Holli's birthday today. She turned 16. So a very happy birthday to her. I can't believe shes 16 now, it was only yesterday she was loosing teeth, climbing trees and turning 7. Where has the time gone? Hope you had a wonderful day, Holli! You deserve it. Happy Sweet 16!

I played that tonight and won a little prize for Kaylee. But I couldn't make it to the very big prize at the top.Its impossible as you know. But it was funny because Kaylee did the same thing as you guys do.She gave me a couple of dollars and begged me to go for the big prize again! I knew I couldn't do it but one day I'm gonna beat that stupid game! Remember you guys can email me anytime.

Universal Studios & American Girl
By Mel | 28 Jun 2008 | 3 Comments |
I went to Universal Studios today. It was alot of fun. I walked around, very camera happy, I took over 400 photos. Didn't really go on many rides but I loved the studio tour ride and thought they had some great little stops along the way including the awesome stunt for The Fast & The Furious: Tokyo Drift. They had 2 cars that caught on fire, screeched to a halt and came flying towards the train. It was really cool how it all came together. They were also filming the 4th movie to that series so that will be great. I know Bray will be very excited, he loves those movies!! I also enjoyed seeing the new addition to the backlot, the crash site from War of the Worlds that stars Dakota Fanning and Tom Cruise. It was so realistic, big and awesome. They used a real boeing 747 in the crash scene and it was just amazing what they can do with os many props, materials and inspiriation. I learn't alot about the props and film departments from that tour. It was my favorite attraction in the whole park!!I had lunch at Mel's Dinner. It was really cool not just because of the name but it had this great feel to it. You go through the line with your tray and pick out your food from the food warmers. I have crispy chicken tenders and fries. While I was eating lunch, I watched some performers sing and dance. Afterwards, I went and watched the Shrek 4D show which was really cool and update since my last visit. I love 3D and 4D shows, they are so realistic and fun. I took some more pictures and then decided to leave. I'm not one for many rides so everything I wanted to see and do had been done and I had a great day. I walked around Universal City Walk, taking more pictures, walking in and out of the stores and stuff. Then caught the metro back to the motel and chilled for a little cos I got a little burnt and was really tired.
Decided to go check out The Grove tonight. Cute little shopping mall and when I say cute, I mean I wanna go back, it was just so cute! It had 2 things I really wanted to check out... American Girl Place and Kit Kittredge: An American Girl Movie. Jennette McCurdy actually got me hooked on American Girl and I love it. I might be too old for it but I think every girl who walks into that store would fall in love. It's adorable, cute, fancy, classy, everything! I loved it. I wanna get an American Girl doll to put in my room back home (We don't have them in Australia) but I just couldn't choose which one I liked the best!!! I'm definately going to the NYC store while I'm in New York and getting one. They are amazing. I mean the store had it's own hair salon for the dolls!! Crazy yet so cool. Afterwards, I got to watch the new American Girl movie starring Abigail Breslin and I loved it. It was a sweet movie, brought tears to my eyes within the first 10 minutes and then by the end of the movie, the tears just kept coming. It was a really emotional touching storyline. Abigail did an amazing job as Kit, she was perfect!!! Definately check it out if you get the chance. Also got a free shirt cos it was a special screening so that was really cool.

Better get some sleep. I'm meeting up with some more friends tomorrow for lunch. Can't wait to see them since last time I was out here Katie was only 6 and now she's 10! It will be great to catch up and stuff. Plus I think we are off to Universal City Walk tomorrow night for some fun anf entertainment so I better rest a little.
Chilling, Dancing & Diandra
By Mel | 26 Jun 2008 | 5 Comments |
Didn't do a lot today, chilled and did a bit of research organised some meetings with friends and stuff. It was nice to just chill out and relax for the day. Later in the afternoon we got picked up by Kaylee and her mom, we went to Dancing with the Stars. It was alot of fun, Kaylee even had us up learning how to ballroom dance. I'm not one to do much dancing so it was definately different for me and a new experience. The most exciting part of the night for me was meeting my friend, Diandra! She's a actress, singer, dancer and model (all rolled into one!) and she is really sweet. We have been emailing for close to 3 years now and we have been trying to meet up but it never works out so she emailed me today and we were able to make some arrangements. Anyway, she came over to dancing and we got to hang out, chat and take some pictures. Hopefully I will get to see her again before I go back home. Her mom was really nice too, she was like, we have a picture of you at home and your Christmas cards. Funny since I have the same of them back home too. I gave Diandra a small Koala and she gave me 3 headshots which she signed for me
